The Faculty of Industrial Chemistry and Environmental Engineering within Politehnica University Timisoara organized the online event “Food safety is everyone’s responsibility” during June 7-9, 2021. The event is a part of the campaign to raise awareness of the importance of food safety that was initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The theme of the 2021 campaign is “Safe food for the health of tomorrow”.
The “Food safety is everyone’s responsibility” event was divided into three sections:
A. June 7, 2021 – The finals of the “Youth and food safety – PolySafeFood” competition (2nd edition), addressed to students in grades 5-12 and bachelor programs;
B. June 8, 2021 - The ”Food safety from raw material to product” workshop, which set out to promote solutions for the prevention, detection and management of risks in technological processes implemented by Romanian food companies. The companies that joined the event are: Aromatics SRL, Smithfield România SRL, European Drinks SA, Avis3000 SRL, Albalact S.A, Alpin 57 Lux SRL, Soloverde SRL, Transilvania Nuts SRL, Dacia Plant SRL, Verdino Greenfoods SRL.
C. 9 iunie 2021 - The workshop on ”The role of universities in training experts in the field of food safety”, which brought together teaching staff and researchers in the field of food safety in Romania to tackle the challenges and demands of training specialists that are capable to design technological processes and analysis and control methods for safe foods.
The organizers and attendees were joined at the opening ceremony by the rector of Politehnica University Timisoara, associate professor eng. Florin Drăgan, Ph.D., and the representative of the National Authority for Food and Veterinary Safety, dr. Alexandru Supeanu.
The universities that attended the event were: Dunărea de Jos University in Galați, the Faculty of Food Science and Engineering; the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, the Faculty of Applied Chemistry and Material Science; the “King Mihai I of Romania” Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine University in Timișoara, the Faculty of Food Engineering, the Technical University in Cluj-Napoca, the Science Faculty in Baia Mare.
WHO proposed six topics for the World Food Safety Day:
