The Politehnica University Timişoara built a whole tradition on honoring and promoting the graduates with particular careers. In this line, the step of Politehnica Foundation enrolls by inviting Dan Boboescu, graduate of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of UPT, who became an established specialist in automotive field, not only nationally, but also internationally.

Clearly touched when he stepped again, after 40 years, through the places in which he framed himself as a specialist and where his father worked as a teacher and also, for a while,  as dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Dan Boboescu wanted to share to the ones who were there some of his abundant experience, acquired not only internally, but also externally.

With humor, the graduated of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering stated that his generation “contributed” to the actual traffic jams, by developing the automotive field, and advised the nowadays students to solve the “issue” that the graduates brought them into.

Dan Boboescu graduated the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in 1982 and became a specialist in research and development on the automotive field.

In 1980, young Boboescu was one of the founding members of the Motoring Department of the Politehnica Sports Club. He attended an internship in Reșița, then he returned in Timișoara, got hired at Dacia Service and later on at the National Institute of Heat Engines.

At Dacia Service he desired to build a rally car, with four-wheel drive, so he modified a Dacia Break car, which he named it Dacia Junior. According to the given time habit, the car was presented to the party leadership, who appreciate the concerns of Timișoara group, so they decided to manufacture a new model of Dacia in the city, at the former enterprise Tehnometal. It was not exactly what the initiators desired, but this was how Dacia 500 appeared, better known as Dacia Lăstun. Dan Boboescu was one of those who took care of the vehicle’s engine and he is actually proud that they could bring out 25 horse-power (or “pony-power”, as he likes to jokingly call it) from the 500 ccs engine. Besides, the first car of the Boboescu family was actually a white Lăstun.

Ever since Dan Boboescu was young, he has had a passion for rallys and for engine preparation, therefore it was not random his co-optation at Division of Contest from Dacia Pitești  Automobile, where he had the mission, after 1990, to prepare the Dacia racing cars, which had to cope the increasingly though competitions with foreign cars brought in our country.

Also after the Revolution, in 1991, he established Temeco company in Timișoara, with a basic core from  Politehnica Auto Club, company that entailed the profile market. Further he set up a new firm, named ProCar, also in the automotive field, with which he initiated a famous competition at that time, Dacia Nova Cup, where all the drivers raced on identical performance cars, designed by ProCar.

Eventually he realized that he is not a businessman, that he was away from the beloved automotive field so, a new change was about to take place. In 1998, after visiting Detroit in the US, he manages to work at one of the most well-known producers of auto parts, especially for car interiors, Johnson Controls, becoming one of the world-class specialists in the automotive interior-design.  As a matter of fact, the interior of one of the luxury limousine, Buick LaCrosse, is signed by Dan Boboescu, the Romanian engineer shaped at the Politehnica University Timişoara.
