On the Day of National Culture, Politehnica University Timișoara paid tribute to Mihai Eminescu through a series of events organized at the Central Library of UPT.
Thus, under the title "Among hundreds of polemics...", on January 15, 2020, the volume "Eminescu orator. Rhetorical Strategies in Publicity” was launched. Its author is Daniel Ciurel, a lecturer at the Faculty of Communication Sciences within UPT. The volume, recently published by Tritonic, presents the Eminescian publication from a rhetorical perspective and is part of the FSC book series.
„Daniel Ciurel approaches, in a fresh and tempting way, a relatively under- researched sector of Eminescu's creation: the publicistic one. Armed with the acquisitions of traditional and neo-rhetorical criticism, with extensive readings in the field of media argumentation, with an exemplary knowledge of journalistic persuasion techniques, Daniel Ciurel identifies in a vast corpus of texts the rhetorical strategies addressed by Mihai Eminescu throughout his publicist career.", said assoc. prof. Mariana Cernicova, PhD, who presented the paper.
The volume aims to relaunch the interest for the eminescian publicity and to promote the rhetorical criticism in the communication sciences, as a special qualitative method. Eminescu was a lucid journalist, uncomfortable and committed. Not at all outdated, indeed, in many ways, extremely current, Eminescu offers a model of the complete journalist, which has influenced generations of Romanian journalists.
Contest with prizes
The users of the Central Library of Politehnica University Timișoara also had an unusual ad-hoc contest, in which they had to recognize whose poems of Mihai Eminescu belong the lyrics presented by the organizers. Surprisingly, or maybe not, but most of the students interviewed recognized the lyrics, and some of them were rewarded with prizes.
15 minutes of poetry
Also on January 15, 2020, from 3:00 pm, the Central Library of Politehnica University Timișoara invited all those interested in Eminescian poetry to 15 minutes of poetry, in the central hall of the institution.
The event was organized on the occasion of the National Culture Day, and during it, volunteer students, together with BCUPT librarians and teachers from Politehnica University Timișoara recited lyrics by Mihai Eminescu in the environment created by the exhibition SIT WITH ME, of the students from the Faculty of Architecture and City Planning.
The poetic moment was opened with a surprise: Prof. eng. Daniel Dan, PhD, Vice-Rector of UPT, performed the famous novelette "Pe lângă plopii fără soț" (”Down Where the Lonely Poplars Grow”), on lyrics by Mihai Eminescu, being applauded on open stage by all those present at the event, but also by the regular users of the library, who went out to the balconies to the atrium in the central hall to assist at the moment.
