On Wednesday, February 27, 2019, the Agency for Regional Development West (ADR Vest) and Politehnica University Timisoara signed the financing contract for the project "Modernizing, expanding and equipping the university educational infrastructure at the Faculty of Industrial Chemistry and Environmental Engineering" at UPT Rectorate.
Two new buildings will be built in the area of the UPT Faculty of Chemistry (Vasile Pârvan nr.6), in the neighborhood of the Students' Church. The investment, totaling more than 5.8 million euros, includes, besides the new buildings, the modernization of the existing faculty premises and the creation of 110 parking spaces. Last but not least, the new building meets the highest standards of building safety.
More than 650 students, how many the faculty currently hosts, will be the direct beneficiaries of the investment. However, the number of young people who will train here is over 2000, as students from other faculties have chemistry classes.
Regarding the planned interventions, the project envisions the modernization of the existing building body of the Faculty of Industrial Chemistry and Environmental Engineering (P + 4) through energy efficiency works and replacement of furniture in laboratories. The current headquarters will be expanded with two new buildings by building Corps A (ground floor) and Corps B (S + P + 3E), which will have the purpose of laboratories, classrooms and offices with a built-up area of 4,403 square meters.
The project is funded through the Regio - Regional Operational Program (Regio -POR) 2014-2020, Priority Axis 10 - Improving Educational Infrastructure, Investment Priority 10.1, Specific Objective 10.3 Increasing the relevance of tertiary education in relation to the labor market and competitive economic sectors.
The total value of the project is 27,343,751.69 lei, of which the amount of the non-reimbursable financing - 26,796,876.65 lei. The implementation period is 34 months.
"For us this is an extraordinary chance to continue our effort to provide a higher level of quality to our students. The new building of the Faculty of Industrial Chemistry and Environmental Engineering will bring together the students, researchers and teaching staff of the institution on a single platform. We notice how Timisoara gradually acquires the appearance of a true university city. After the UPT Library, the new building of the Faculty of Chemistry will add to the modernity of the campus of the university", underlined the UPT rector, prof. eng. Viorel-Aurel Serban, PhD
"This financing agreement completes the objectives under the Regional Operational Program. The building to be built is a new modern one and will satisfy educationally the most educational requirements. It will be a reference, and architectural, and as endowment for students", said Sorin Maxim, general manager of West RDA.
