On November 15, 2018, Politehnica University of Timişoara organized the ceremony of awarding the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to the prof. emeritus Gyde Hansen, PhD. The proposal for granting the title came from the Faculty of Communication Sciences, which celebrates 25 years of transduction this year in UPT, its Dean, prof. Daniel Dejica-Cartiş, PhD, who was also the one who read Laudatio.
Professor Emeritus in the Business Communication Department at the prestigious Copenhagen Business School, Denmark (ranked 201-250 at the World University Rankings 2018), Mrs Gyde Hansen is an ad hoc member of the European Society for Translation Studies (EST) and former Vice-President of the Society for two mandates, between 2004-2010. Its research and interest areas include translation research methods, empirical research of translation processes, critical translation, revision of texts, pre-editing and post-editing of texts, translators training, textual and stylistic analysis, linguistic policies.
At the event, Ms. prof. dem. habil. Gyde Hansen, visibly excited at the receival of the robes and Doctor Honoris Causa of Politehnica University Timisoara, held a lecture titled The Status of Translation Studies Today in which she talked about the evolution of translation, the future of translations and the role of translators in the current context where the translation process is increasingly automated.
