An important event took place on Monday, January 14, 2019, in the K1 Amphitheater of the Conference Center of Politehnica University Timisoara - launching the volume "In memoriam Tiberiu Muresan". The sentimental archive of UPT is thus enriched with a new editorial release dedicated to the memory of one of the pioneers of the Romanian electronics school.

More than one author contributed to the volume. Former PhD students, colleagues, teachers have written paragraphs or chapters in which they have evoked moments from Tiberiu Muresan's life or memories of the renowned professor. The launching of the book and evocation of the distinguished professor's memory took place in the organization of Politehnica Foundation, the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications Engineering and Information Technologies and the Department of Applied Electronics from Politehnica University Timisoara.

Professor Tiberiu Mureşan is one of the founders of the Timişoara School of Electronics, a true pillar of the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications Engineering and Information Technologies, which owes him enormously, a model for all the generations he has guided.

He was born on January 11, 1933 in Timisoara. He graduated C.D. Loga High School, then the Secondary Technical Electricity School. He attended the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, becoming an engineer in 1951. He accepted the proposal to become a teaching staff at the same faculty, in the field of Industrial Electronics, initially occupying the position of laboratory chief, then in 1957 he became assistant to the same discipline. In 1960 he received a doctoral scholarship at the University of Brno, Czechoslovakia.

Shortly after his return to the country he became an assistant, receiving an industrial electronics course, the only electronic discipline that was then taught at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Together with Professor Alexandru Rogojan, Prof. Tiberiu Mureşan played a decisive role in establishing the Electronics specialization in 1970, taking over the discipline of Analog and Digital Integrated Circuits, which he developed and taught until his retirement in 2003 and even after.

He has completed doctorates in the fields of electronics and robotics, finalizing 17 doctoral theses of Politehnica graduates, 6 of whom are abroad.

Much of his teaching and scientific activity was devoted to robotics, an area that in the 1970s took a considerable momentum in Timisoara with priorities at national level. He has been able to form, together with Professor Francisc Kovacs, from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the largest research team in Politehnica. The remarkable results of this team, led by Prof. Francisc Kovacs and Prof. Tiberiu Muresan, were rewarded with the "Traian Vuia" Prize of the Romanian Academy for 1983.

He has carried out a rich research activity with over 30 research contracts and grants, including international ones, with the World Bank and other prestigious institutions, while developing 5 patents for invention or innovation.

Prof. Tiberiu Mureşan, PhD, was the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering between 1976-1984, head of the Department of Applied Electronics from 1990-2000, a member of the UPT Senate and of the Faculty Council for more than 25 years.

He was president of the Timisoara Branch of the Romanian Association of Robotics (ARR), member of several editorial boards of specialized magazines in the country and abroad, chairman of the Politehnica club athletics section for 15 years, member of IEEE- USA and the German Association of Engineers (VDI).
