On October 9, 2020, the traditional international conference "Advanced Materials and Structures - AMS 2020" took place online in Timișoara. The event reached its eighth edition, being held regularly since 1998. This year, the Departments of Materials and Manufacturing Engineering (IMF) and Mechanics and Strength of Materials (MRM) were responsible for the coordination and development of this scientific event on behalf of Politehnica University Timișoara, with support from Politehnica Foundation.

The International Conference on Advanced Materials and Structures (AMS) is a significant event in the field of Advanced Materials Science and Engineering, covering all important aspects: materials manufacturing/development technologies, property description, advanced applications, investigation methods, and mathematical modeling.

Over 100 participants presented their papers at each edition of the conference, these being academic staff, researchers, Ph.D. students, and professionals in the field, both in the country (Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Brasov, Resita, Hunedoara, Arad) and abroad (Germany, France, Poland, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, Norway, Peru, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, Switzerland, Hungary, Canada, Brazil). According to the feedback of the participants, the quality and prestige of the conference increased from one edition to another.

The papers presented at the conference were published in proceedings and journals from the spectrum of engineering materials (Advanced Materials and Structures, IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, Materials Today: Proceedings) indexed by ISI or Scopus.

During this edition, over 80 scientific papers were received both from the country (Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Brasov, Hunedoara) and from abroad (Germany, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Brazil). The papers were presented online on Friday, October 9, 2020, in three different sections:

  • Section 1 -  Advanced materials - amorphous, nanostructured materials, composites, cellular materials, biomaterials;
  • Section 2 - Surface engineering and Modern fabrication, additive manufacturing, joints and recycling technologies;
  • Section 3 - Materials damage under time-dependent-actions (fatigue, creep, impact, corrosion) and Computational techniques for advanced engineering materials and structures.
