During the period July 22 - August 2, 2019, in Timisoara was held the 5th edition of the Summer School "Data Assimilation and its applications", organized by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Politehnica University Timisoara in partnership with the Technical University of Delft, The Netherlands, and Equinor University in Norway.
The event is part of a series that began in 2009 and continues with a biannual frequency. This summer school consists of 2 weeks of courses on the fundamentals and applications of mathematical algorithms (inverse modeling, applied statistics, decision making, numerical analysis, data assimilation) in different application areas (environment, hydrology, energy).
The summer school is addressed to the students in the last years of study, Master and Doctorate in Mathematics and Engineering. At this year's event, which takes place at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, 25 international students and 10 Romanian students participated. The courses were taught by 16 professors, internationally recognized experts, from Europe and Australia.
In addition to the audited courses and debates on scientific topics, the students attending the summer school also took part in the activities within ISWinT, the international student festival organized by Liga AC (Students League of the Faculty of Automation and Computing of Politehnica University Timisoara).
