The library of Politehnica University Timișoara has become more than just a reading space lately. It is a modern, perhaps the most modern library in the country where, besides the usual facilities, a series of cultural, business, student events, book launches, film evenings, exhibitions are organized. Under these circumstances, it is not surprising that students come here with pleasure and in great numbers.
On April 23, when the Librarian's Day is celebrated all over the world, the students flocked to be ”one day librarians", welcomed their colleagues with candy and smiles, and saw what being a librarian entails. Two of the UPT vice-rectors joined them, prof. eng. Daniel Dan, PhD, and assoc. prof. Florin Dragan, PhD, who surprised their students by appearing at the Library registration desk.
Also, on this occasion, the Friends of the Library Club was launched, bringing together personalities from various fields, from music stars (Maria Hojda, Horia Crisovan, Daniel Dorobantu) to cultural personalities, businessmen or even performance athletes who support events organized at the UPT Library.
Throughout the world, on April 23, the Librarian's Day and the World Book Day have been celebrated at UNESCO's initiative since 1996. On this day, almost every country in the world is celebrating the book, authors, publishers, librarians, librarians and, implicitly, readers.
The idea of marking the Day of the Librarian and the World Day of Books on April 23 was provided by Spain, where on this day the Rose Festival takes place, an event that celebrates Saint George (San Jordi) and commemorates Miguel de Cervantes alongside William Shakespeare. On this day, in Spain, even in the Middle Ages, girls and women receive flowers and men - books.
