A collaboration started over 20 years ago between Politehnica University Timișoara and the Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble, France continues in 2020, albeit adapted to the new epidemiological context.
The summer school "Product design and manufacturing" holds its seventh online edition, between 8-19 July 2020. The event has already become traditional and is organized by the Department of Materials Engineering and Manufacturing at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering within Politehnica University Timisoara. Twenty-three third-year students from the Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble Faculty of Industrial Engineering, specializing in Sustainable Industrial Performance Engineering, attend the summer school via an agreement signed between the two universities.
The summer school program provides 75 hours of activity in the form of courses, tutorials, and applications (formerly visits to enterprises in the industrial area of Timisoara), which ends with the assessment of knowledge.
The summer school includes the following modules: CAD (lecturers Adrian Dume and Dorian Ștef), Process Planning (Prof. George Drăghici), CAM (Assoc. prof. Adrian But), Metrology (Assoc. prof. Aurel Tulcan) and Manufacturing Systems (Assoc. prof. George Belgiu).
The collaboration of Politehnica University Timișoara with the Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble on integrated product and process design dates back over 20 years. In 1999, UPT organized the first Francophone education module held by professors from Grenoble, in Flexible manufacturing, with support from the French embassy in Bucharest.
The collaboration continued with the participation of a team from UPT in European projects (FP 6, Leonardo da Vinci, Erasmus+), diploma, master, and doctoral project internships of UPT students in Grenoble, etc.
The person in charge of these projects is Prof. Emeritus Eng. George Drăghici, Ph.D., director of the Integrated Engineering Research Center.
