Politehnica University Timisoara is growing in international rankings

the global classification of higher education institutions and those active in research for 2018

SCImago Institutions Rankings has published the global classification of higher education institutions and those active in the field of research for the year 2018. According to this classification, Politehnica University Timisoara is ranked third among the higher education institutions in Romania, increasing by two places compared to 2017. It should be noted that SCImago Institutions Rankings ranked 25 Romanian universities (only those meeting the minimum criteria on the number of scientific papers published).

University performance evaluation in SCImago Institutions Rankings is based on the following criteria:

Research

- the total of documents published and indexed in SCOPUS;

- the percentage of publications made with other institutions out of the total number of publications;

- the normalized quotations value per article;

- the percentage of the institution's publications in the top 25% of the best-rated journals in the field;

- the dispersion of scientific issues of the institution;

- the percentage of the institution's production in the most cited 10% articles in that field;

- percentage of articles in total where the lead author is part of the institution,

- the total number of authors within the institution;

 

Innovation

- total scientific production quoted in patents;

- the percentage of the total quoted in the patents



Societal Impact

- the size of the web (the number of pages associated with the institution);

- total external visits to the institution's web site.




SCImago Institutions Rankings bases its analysis exclusively on information gathered from international databases, being, from this point of view, outside the influences of data provided by universities.

The SCImago Institutions Rankings for the year 2018, globally, comprises 3232 universities, and Politehnica University Timisoara is ranked 512 in the position based on score. In terms of positioning in Eastern Europe (including Russia, Czech Republic Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Kosovo, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Georgia , Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova), Politehnica University Timişoara ranks 47 among the over 3000 higher education institutions, of which only 141 were classified.

It is noteworthy that over the last five years, the total production of academic publications in Politehnica University Timisoara is over 1000 per year. For example, in 2017, teachers and researchers from Politehnica University Timisoara published more than 250 articles in ISI-indexed journals and presented more than 320 papers in ISI-indexed conferences, as UPT employs about 600 titular didactic personnel.
