Politehnica University Timișoara hosted Friday, April 12, 2019, in the Polyvalent Hall of UPT Library building, the regional preselection of FameLab 2019, the most important international public communication contest for the public, with British funding, open to all students and researchers over 19 years who study or work in engineering, medicine, technology, biology, chemistry, physics or mathematics.
Each FameLab competitor had to present, in no more than 3 minutes, a science subject of choice and the presentation had to be entertaining, original, to have scientific rigor and to capture the attention of the unnoticed public. Competitors' presentations were judged by the jury based on three criteria: content, clarity and charisma.
The winner of the first place at the regional pre-selection held at Politehnica University Timişoara, who qualified for the national round of the competition, was student Tudor Suciu from the Faculty of Chemistry, Biology and Geography, who during the 3 minutes he had at his disposal, presented the ”record-man" of the living world, a true superhero, the tardigrade.
After the regional preselection, the contestants were selected for the national finals, where they will also benefit from a masterclass of communication supported by specialists from the UK and Romania.
The big prize for the winner of FameLab Romania is a week in the UK at Cheltenham Science Festival, where they will participate in the FameLab International final alongside winners from 29 other countries.
In addition, the FameLab Romania representative in the international finals will also benefit from a 500-euro prize awarded by the Hermann Oberth Association for Education and Science, a 10-year partner of the FameLab competition.
