UPT students awarded in the "InGENIOUSly Continental 2018" finals

The Continental Company and Politehnica University Timisoara challenged the students, as early as March 2018, to participate in the fifth edition of the "InGENIOUSly Continental 2018" competition, in which they had to create cars that decide on what path to follow.

After an initial selection, 35 students, all from UPT, remained in the competition, divided into seven teams, which, under the guidance of 32 mentors from Continental and Politehnica University Timisoara, prepared for 14 weeks and developed from scratch, a machine system that allows tracking of a marked roadway and automatic speed control, as well as the possibility of deciding the route at intersections. Also, the developed system had to permanently display the travel speed and the distance traveled from the start of each route on a smartphone. Each team had a budget of 500 euros, which they used to buy the necessary components.

The final of the competition took place on June 6th, and the best concepts were awarded by the organizers with 6,000 lei (prize I), 3,200 lei (second place) and 1,600 lei (3rd place).

General Manager of Continental Automotive Romania, Dr. Christian von Albrichsfeld, said that the students who participated in this project learned not only how to work in a team but also what the rigors of a finished project were and the UPT Vice-rector, prof. eng. Marius Oteşteanu, Ph.D, after congratulating all the participating students, stressed the importance of the theoretical training of the students, which, complemented by the practice in companies and laboratories, creates the premises for a successful career.
