UPT students built the most beautiful bridge

Recently, on the Microsoft Teams platform of the Faculty of Railways, Roads and Bridges within the Technical University of Civil Engineering in Bucharest, the 6th edition of the student competition „CADRE - Concurs de mAchete de poDuri și feRme din lEmn” (FRAMES - Wooden bridge and farm models competition) took place. All participating teams respected the material requirements, the type of wood (Balsa), and the construction rules imposed in the competition rules, and at the end, they made an A3 poster.

On behalf of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of Politehnica University Timișoara, four teams participated, made up of two students each, from the third and fourth years of study, coordinated by Ph.D. student eng. Maura Vioreanu. The participating students are:

1. The “ICG” team - Andreia Juravle, together with Isabella Floroni, year III, ICG section, work entitled “Friendship Bridge”;
2. The “Hope” team - Emanuel Merticariu, together with Marian Alexandru Radu, year III, CFDP section, work entitled “Banat Bridge”;
3. The “Blitzkrieg” team - Teodor Gugea (year IV, CCIA), together with Ștefan Edward Manea (year III, ICG), work entitled “Ferdinand Bridge”;
4. The “Răspândacii” team - Dan Radu Bârdan, together with Robert Papp, first year, IPT master, work entitled “Zafer Bridge”.

All 4 teams within UPT showed involvement, seriousness, team spirit, and innovation in making the models. Out of the 19 participating teams, in the section of bridge models, the “ICG” team was designated the winner of the prize for the most beautiful model.

As the two authors state, inspired by Anghel Saligny's bridge, the "Friendship Bridge" symbolizes the pillars of a true friendship: trust, stability, and beauty. The structure of the bridge is made of beams with lattice, this being the most advantageous structure for a bridge with a small opening.
