Special admission places for athletes
A new premiere at UPT!
In addition to IT, engineering, architecture, management or communication enthusiasts, Politehnica University Timișoara is waiting for young high school graduates with sports skills to enroll. Thus, UPT offers future students the chance to have a sports career in addition to a job sought on the labor market. Moreover, this year, for the first time in the country, based on the tradition of Politehnica University Timișoara to promote university sports, 5 places are allocated at university level for athlete candidates. The tuition fee is covered by UPT from its own funds.
The candidates will participate in the competitions related to the fields for which they have applied. In order to enter the ranking process and benefit from the status of performance athlete, they must score the minimum grade for passing the tests (the baccalaureate passed and the minimum average of 5 in the case of competitions with knowledge verification tests).
Candidates who have been awarded medals in athletics, rowing, fencing, modern pentathlon, swimming, boxing, climbing, volleyball, handball, basketball, each type of competition can be admitted to Politehnica University Timișoara, on the special places allocated to athletes. Competitions have been assigned a certain score depending on its type (national/international, juniors/seniors).

Throughout its 100 years of existence, sport has always played an important role at UPT. Both performance and leisure sports. Physical education has always been a compulsory subject at Politehnica University.
Politehnica University Timisoara has probably the most important sports infrastructure of all universities in Romania. On all the sports bases of UPT, both performance and university and leisure activities are carried out. Știința Stadium, with night and athletics track, and Sports Base no. 2, with football fields (with natural and artificial turf) and tennis, balloon with mini football fields, handball and basketball, gym, swimming pool (indoor, with sauna and fitness equipment, and outdoor), offer a lot of opportunities for practising sports. All the facilities are available to students free of charge.
Students who wish can do both physical exercise and amateur sports, in student competitions, or even legitimated, in national competitions. Thus, men can become members of football teams (in the Municipal Championship or in the National University Championship) and handball (in the second echelon), and women, in football and volleyball teams (in both cases, in the second league). Individual sports practitioners have the sections of CSU Politehnica Timișoara, which include mountaineering and climbing, athletics, rowing, modern pentathlon and fencing! Gamers can become members of Politehnica’s eSports team and participate in virtual football competitions. And the footballers and performance handball players can play in the Second League, respectively in the Bison League, in the two flagship teams of the Timișoara polytechnic sport!
