As emphasized by the rector of Politehnica University Timisoara, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Florin Drăgan, Ph.D., in 2023, the year of the European Capital of Culture, "what is important is what remains after it ends." And now, at the beginning of 2024, UPT proves that its involvement and support for numerous cultural events and projects at the intersection of science and art were not fleeting.

On Thursday, February 15, 2024, the exhibition "Almost night, almost light," by the Cluj-based artist Mathias Bar, opened at the MV Sci-Art center, an event organized by the META Space Contemporary Art Gallery.

As stated by the Center's director, Mirela Vlăduți, "Almost night, almost light" is a profound exploration of the complexity of human existence, inviting spectators to navigate through a dense network of visual narratives. Mathias Bar's exploration goes beyond superficiality, delving into the hidden dimensions of the human psyche, where inner monsters are metaphorically revealed. Although deeply rooted in symbolism and metaphor, Bar's work transcends cultural and temporal boundaries, inviting introspection into the multifaceted nature of identity and the tension between what is seen and what is hidden. His works often reveal scenes frozen in time: ethereal characters navigating dreamlike landscapes, mythical creatures, and complex dynamics between human figures and wild animals, fostering a sense of connection and introspection rather than fear or horror.

Present at the event, Ovidiu Megan, executive director of the Timișoara - European Capital of Culture Association, praised Politehnica University Timisoara's openness to cultural events, both throughout 2023 and now, after the conclusion of the Timișoara - European Capital of Culture program.

Mathias Bar is a young contemporary artist, born in Cluj-Napoca, where he currently lives and works. Through his works, Mathias challenges societal norms and conventions, prompting viewers to contemplate the complex interaction between duality and identity. His paintings blur the lines between deception and wisdom, exploring themes related to good and evil, prey and predator.

The exhibition will be open to the public until April 21, 2024.
