The seminar "Performance in sport" will take place over two days, October 11 - 12, 2019, consisting of both theoretical and practical lessons, on the Știința stadium, within UPT. The conference will be attended by Prof. DHC Tudor Bompa, Horia Colibășanu (mountaineer), Florin Vasilcan (physical training coordinator), Dr. Bogdan Almăjan, PhD, and Ben Johnson will tackle "Speed training in sport". The program starts every day at 9:00 am at the Multipurpose Room inside the Central Library of the UPT.

During the press conference, the initiator of the event, Sorin Sărăndan, spoke about the acute need of sports specialists, prof. assoc. Florin Drăgan, PhD, Vice-Rector of UPT, underlined that performance, both in education and in sport, is a feature that defines the Timisoara Polytechnic from the beginning, prof. eng. Viorel-Aurel Șerban, PhD, rector of UPT, announced some of the surprises that the institution he runs prepares in the field of sport (taking over the sports club and introducing a postgraduate program in sports), and Tudor Bompa introduced Ben Johnson, whom he considers an athlete and an extraordinary character, who was deeply wronged.

Also at the press conference, Ben Johnson told about his meeting with coach Tudor Bompa, who propelled him into his career, about his life as an athlete and his tiring workouts, noting that everything he has done, to this day, it was for his mother that he devoted his entire career.

Benjamin Sinclair Johnson, known as Ben Johnson, was born on December 30, 1961, in Jamaica. Established as a young man in Canada, he was one of the brightest athletes of all time. At the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, he won the 100m final with a new world record, 9.79 seconds, but was disqualified for doping, in the biggest doping scandal in the history of the Olympics.

Tudor Bompa was born on December 23, 1932, in Romania, in Năsăud. He practiced athletics and boating, sports in which he won several medals, including a silver at the European Rowing Championship of 1958. He was, among others, a university assistant at the Polytechnic Institute of Timisoara (currently UPT) and director of athletics at the Polytechnic of Timisoara. He revolutionized Western training methods, being considered one of the world's leading specialists in periodization, planning, performance and strength training. Among the great athletes he has prepared are Mihaela Peneș, the Romanian gold medalist at the 1964 Olympic Games in Spear, and Ben Johnson. Established in Canada, he is a retired professor at York University in Toronto. Two years ago, Politehnica University Timisoara awarded him the title of Doctor Honoris Causa.
