Diploma Project Competition at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering within UPT

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Politehnica University Timișoara, in collaboration with Politehnica Foundation, organized the third edition of the Diploma Project Competition aimed at undergraduate students who are working on their diploma projects within the faculty's laboratories.

The purpose of this competition is to offer companies the opportunity to select their future engineers, evaluate the level of work conducted within the faculty, and provide suggestions for improving the teaching activities carried out at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

The competition took place in two stages. In the preliminary phase, held between June 19 and June 30, 2023, during the diploma project defense exam, the committee selected the best diploma projects. In the final stage, which took place on July 3, 2023, the selected students from each specialization presented their projects before an impartial committee composed of specialists from the companies supporting this competition: Hella Romania, SIPA Engineering Romania, Vitesco Technologies Engineering Romania, Berg Banat, and Zoppas Industries Romania.

The evaluation committee followed several criteria, including the structure and format of the project, its content, original contributions, and potential for practical application of the results.

In the end, the jury comprised of representatives from the companies awarded the following prizes to both students and coordinators:

• 1st Prize (2,000 lei) - student Alexandru Ovidiu Danco, from the Robotics specialization, supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Valentin Ciupe, Ph.D., for the project "Rail Vehicle for Maintenance and Inspection - Zimbru 1";

• 2nd Prize (1,500 lei) - students Robert-Marius Vasiescu and Aladin Beniamin Șindea, from the TCM IFR specialization, supervised by Lect. Dr. Eng. Dorian Ștef, Ph.D., for the project "Design and Construction of an Auto Model";

• 3rd Prize (1,000 lei) - student Victor Mihai George Florea, from the Mechanical Engineering specialization, supervised by Lect. Dr. Eng. Sergiu Valentin Gălățanu, Ph.D., for the project "Creating an Electric Guitar Body Using Additive Manufacturing Processes."
