Politehnica University Timișoara Stands Out Thanks to its Professors and Researchers

Research.com has released the results of the latest ranking of top universities worldwide, based on the sum of the D-index values (equivalent to the Hirsch index, but taking into account only works in the field and citations) of each top scientist affiliated with a particular university. Politehnica University Timișoara ranks an honorable 2nd place nationally - and the only one in Timișoara - out of the 11 higher education institutions considered, with the highest number of considered researchers at the national level.

Moreover, in the field of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, the first 3 positions out of the 4 classified in Romania are held by UPT researchers, while in the field of Engineering and Technology, Politehnica Timișoara has a professor ranked 4th out of a total of 5 classified.

On the national level, UPT has climbed two places in the ranking compared to the previous edition (when it held the 4th place). Internationally, the Timișoara higher education institution has risen from the 1900th place to the 1600th place, and in the field of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, it has moved from the 291st place to the 290th place.

The four top scientists who have elevated Politehnica University Timișoara in the international rankings are Radu-Emil Precup (D-index 58), Ion Boldea (D-index 50), Ștefan Preitl (D-index 38), and Liviu Marșavina (D-index 33). A scholar with a D-index (discipline H-index) higher than a predetermined threshold (usually 30 or 40) for their study fields is considered a leading scientist.

In comparison to other global university rankings, Research.com's ranking aims primarily to focus on the research achievements of top faculty working in an institution, providing the scientific community and the business environment with the opportunity to discover who the leading experts are in various research fields.

The ranking process included a detailed examination of the profiles of 166,880 researchers from Google Scholar and Microsoft Academic Graph, representing approximately 3,000 institutions.
