Internal competition for research and development projects

Funding over 700,000 lei for young researchers

Politehnica University Timișoara launched a challenge for young researchers to participate in an internal competition of research and development projects, the first place in each field to be financed by at least 10,000 euros. For the first time, part of the funding is provided by the private sector, and the rest of UPT's own funds, the total budget of the competition being about 150,000 euros.

Only young researchers up to 45 years old with the title of university assistant or head of works/lecturer could participate in the competition. 76 projects competed in 14 research fields of the UPT. The judging was external and was carried out in universities members of ARUT (Romanian Alliance of Technical Universities) other than Politehnica University Timisoara.

A second round of the competition will take place in January 2018, when the projects in the non-winning places in the first stage will have the chance to be funded by economic agents interested in the respective research themes.

The competition aimed to support teachers and young researchers working in UPT to initiate research themes that would later be developed in the form of complex national and international projects. Also, has been supervised the professional development of young teachers and researchers, the intensification of collaborations with the economic environment, the increase of UPT's scientific output through publication in ISI journals, the participation of young researchers at prestigious national and international conferences, the development of research infrastructure (from the respective sums will be purchased equipment’s).
