The conference of a reputed specialist of the UPT
According to a tradition of the Romanian Academy of Technical Sciences (ASTR), the reception of a new member must be accompanied by the support of a so-called reception conference. Tuesday, November 19, 2019, the Conference Center of Politehnica University Timisoara hosted the conference held by one of its specialist reputations, Prof. Emeritus Eng. Ioan David, PhD, from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the UPT. Not long ago, he was awarded, in a solemn ceremony, at the headquarters of the Romanian Academy of Technical Sciences, the diploma of Honorary Member of ASTR, in recognition of the remarkable activity in the field of science and technology.
A distinguished member of the faculty of Politehnica University Timișoara, prof. eng. Vladimir Crețu, PhD, spoke about Ioan David’s remarkable career.
In the presence of several academics, teachers, colleagues and friends, professor Ioan David held the conference on "New valences of hydroelectric conversion in the context of increasing the share of renewable energy in the energy mix", in which he focused on the presentation of the newest systems for hydroelectric energy storage, a challenge for Romania, especially in the light of the increasing popularity of alternative energy.
Prof. em. eng. Ioan David, PhD, is a graduate of the Polytechnic Institute of Timișoara, the Faculty of Civil Engineering (promotion 1964) and of the Western University Timișoara, the Faculty of Mathematics (the promotion of 1972), and since 1974 he is a doctor engineer.
He started his teaching career in 1964, at Politehnica University Timisoara and went through all the stages of the academic hierarchy, becoming a university professor and doctoral supervisor (since 1990). During his teaching career, prof. David has performed a remarkable activity, teaching a significant number of disciplines: Hydraulics, Hydraulics and Hydrotechnical Designs, Underground Hydraulics, Mathematical Modeling in Hydrotechnics. From 1993-2005 he was a professor at the Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany, and since 2006 he has been a visiting professor at the University of Applied Science Gießen -Frankfurt, Germany. Since 2010 he is a consultant professor at Politehnica University Timisoara. He was dean of the Faculty of Hydrotechnic Engineering (1990-1994) and scientific secretary of the UPT Senate (1989, 1990-1992).
The scientific activity is supported by the more than 200 scientific papers published in specialized magazines, held at national and international conferences, 16 books published in Romania and abroad, university courses, problem collections and laboratory guidance, 3 patents and more 80 research and development contracts.
Among the academic distinctions received by Professor Ioan David we mention: MEI Research Award (1972); Academic title of Honorary Professor of the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany (1999); Member of the "American Romanian Academy of Arts and Sciences" (2002); Member of the External Corporation of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (2005); Title of Excellence of the POLITEHNICA Foundation Timisoara (2010).
