The first edition of Unihack, at the end

The Student Cantina of Politehnica University Timisoara hosted the first edition of the international hackathon UniHack, an event organized by Liga AC (the Students Organization of the Faculty of Automation and Computing of Politehnica University Timisoara) and Banat IT, which brought together over one hundred students and IT enthusiasts from both the country and abroad.

UniHack is a competition that gave participants a framework for development and learning in a short time. The participants, grouped in teams of up to 5 people, had 48 hours to design and implement software solutions or hardware for civic issues, under the guidance of experienced mentors and partner companies' representatives.

Like any hackathon, the best teams have been awarded! Depending on the theme and the technologies used, the projects were in the following categories: Smart Mobility, Best Web App, Best Mobile App, Best Hardware Project.

The Great Prize, worth over 1,000 euros, was won by a team from Timisoara, Make Romania Great Again (consisting of Laura Vasilie, Denis-Eusebiu Lazar, Raul Gherasim, Darius-Flavius Costolas, Alexandru Zagrean). They have developed the project ”My MP”, an application that centralizes data about MPs and puts them in touch with citizens. Information about MPs' activity is aggregated in the platform and is provided to users in an accessible way, including in the form of statistics.

Other appreciated projects were Smart Collector - a solution for monitoring garbage bins in the city, Wave - an application that provides an alternative to voice commands or Karen the Drone - a web platform that enables surveillance and investigation of points of interest using drones.

The event was organized with the support of the Faculty of Automation and Computing, Politehnica University Timișoara and the sponsors: Continental, SafeFleet, Visma, Here Technologies.
