Part of the official program of the opening weekend, financed by the Project Center of the Municipality of Timișoara, the "TakeOver" event was an invitation to students, young people, and everyone in the city to celebrate the Culture Capital in a different way. Resembling a small festival, 3 locations on the campus of Politehnica University Timișoara hosted 7 DJs on Saturday night – one from Cyprus, a respected artist from Bucharest, 2 university students, and 3 Timișoara residents appreciated for their musical style. The venues proved to be cramped, with organizers estimating that more than 2,000 people wandered through the UPT campus, some arriving even before the announced start time, to ensure they would get a spot on the dance floor.

Almost 3 kilometers of LEDs and light strips highlighted the route that guided the public from one stage to another, giving them the chance to explore the UPT campus as never before.
Among the participants were students from all 4 universities in the city, as well as teaching staff, Politehnica graduates, representatives of local public institutions and the business sector, as well as tourists who came to the city for the opening ceremony. The event created a unique context in the city on Bega, where people from completely different backgrounds celebrated together, expressed themselves freely and put aside prejudices.
