Rector of the Politehnica University Timişoara, Prof.Eng Viorel-Aurel ŞERBAN Ph.D., received from Budapest's Óbuda University the highest distinction that a higher education institution can award - the title of Doctor Honoris Causa.
The distinction is all the more important as the Óbuda University, with a history of 132 years, grants such titles only once a year, on the occasion of the University Day, in 2017 three of which are the personalities nominated to become Doctor Honoris Causa.
During the solemn ceremony have been highlighted the merits of Prof.Eng Viorel-Aurel ŞERBAN, Ph.D., both in the scientific field and in the academic management, as well as in the stimulation of the collaboration relations between the Politehnica University Timişoara and Óbuda University. "PhD coordinator in the field of materials science, coordinator in 18 research grants and member in other 61 (of which 10 with European funds), author of 242 published scientific papers and 19 specialized books, Prof.Eng Viorel-Aurel Şerban, Ph.D., is also a true lawyer for the relations between Obuda University and Politehnica University Timişoara, much improved lately, "mentioned, among others, in motivating the awarding of the title.”
The two higher education institutions started the collaboration in the academic year 2001/2002, on the line of automation and computers, the initiator being Prof.Eng Ştefan PREITL Ph.D., from UPT's Faculty of Automation and Computing. Afterwards, inter-university relations have been extended both on the academic side, through exchanges of professors and students, as well as on research, going to partnership relations in several international projects.
"I am honored with the title of Doctor Honoris Causa awarded by Óbuda University and I believe that it was awarded to me both for scientific and research activity and as a result of the good relations established 15 years ago and developed lately. It is also a recognition of the quality of the academic body, academic and research activity of the Politehnica University Timișoara, one of the renowned institutions in this part of Europe, " said Prof.Eng Viorel-Aurel ŞERBAN Ph.D.
